Collage Exercise for creating new content!!!

Do you ever feel stuck with the content you’re creating? If so, I suggest a change-up with this exercise! Make a collage to inspire a diverse perspective, to introduce new activities, and things to try – by sparking interest with colors and magazine clippings.

Firstly, get a cork board, foam board or even just cardboard boxes, and some plain paper.

Tape your pages together and cut them to size to cover the board. Then get out your magazine and just start tearing out whatever inspires you! I tear large sheets, and then cut everything down to smaller sizes later. Do this until you have so much material you don’t think it will fit on the board anymore. Pull text, images and even found objects if you want.

As soon as you start shredding up a magazine you will notice how inspiration is starting to unfold. I felt renewed while doing this and that writer’s block or creative block seemed to be flushed away by new thoughts, and fresh ideas!

Once you glue all of the images and snippets down, start to figure out what themes are standing out. Themes that started to resonate with me were: canned food in a jar or rather homesteading; earthy bouquets like the one featured on the left or rather an easter arrangement; breakfast on a stick with dipping sauces – maybe how to make breakfast fun with kids! Baked brunch, setting the table for an elegant event; boutonnieres for fun events or a posy for a get-well soon gift; elegant wreaths; ice cream sundae bar, DIY Thanksgiving decor…it goes on and on.

The remarkable thing here is that everything in the world has already been done, but it hasn’t been done by you, so find your way, get inspired and then make it your own! Happy fresh beginnings!
