We went twig collecting. So fun, so easy…twigs are everywhere. I had tons of adhesive foam hearts leftover from last year. I just stuck them together around the twig. We tied and glued feathers on with twine and hot glue and added some confetti. Makes a fun little arrow to add to a valentine’s card. I love putting little candies and arrows in my envelopes!

This was a fun one because of all the texture involved. My art tablecloth made of craft paper turned into my valentine by accident, and then I loved the idea so I just cut-out all the hearts from the tablecloth and said “just go with it”. I am a firm believer that mistakes are blessings in disguise and every time I make a mistake while doing something artistic, it almost always leads me to an even cooler idea! So, “just go with it!!!”

I had stickers, water colors, water color pencils, rose petals, glitter, confetti, twigs, doilies, craft paper…it went on and on. Get all your stuff out, make a big mess, play with it all and something fun will arrive. It’s good for kids to have the freedom to create, make messes, play for long periods of time and to just roll with it. At a certain point, I was the only one making valentine’s and my daughter was actually concocting a colorful potion made of water colors, sidewalk chalk, water, confetti, glue and dirt. See, you just gotta let the creativity unfold how it will!!

I love the idea of making the arrow and the heart a set! And adding candy to a big envelope. You gotta decorate the envelope too!

This idea I want to explore more tomorrow. I want to get my hand print and my daughter’s together so you can see the size difference on a heart. In Willow’s preschool class they did sparkly hand prints on little doily hearts. I also want to do more of those. I love a good little hand print.
I have to say working with watercolor pencils is so amazing since the pigment just glides right onto the page effortlessly for little ones. It’s so fabulous for practicing writing skills too while holding onto the pencil instead of a brush. Anyways, I’m a big fan.
